Governor Patrick has nominated a new head of the MBTA, Richard Davey, reports the Globe's Brian MacQuarrie. The Herald's Jessica van Sack also has the story. Van Sack and Edward Mason report that Davey will face a crushing deficit when he takes the reins.
The Globe's Michael Levenson reports on Cahill's defense of the campaign donations scandal he's in the middle of.
The Herald's Dave Wedge reports that Boston teachers plan to protest planned budget cuts.
The Cape Cod Times's Patrick Cassidy reports that Federal officials have finished hearing from the public about Cape Wind.
What else is there this morning that I'm forgetting... oh, yes. Healthcare after the jump.
Political Intelligence's Michael Bailey reports that former governor and presidential hopeful (emeritus) Mitt Romney has denounced the bill and the process. The AP reports that he's saying this will cost Obama his second term. I think it's way too early to call that, and of course Romney's a little biased because he'd like to deprive Obama of that second term.
The Globe reports on Representative Lynch's (D-MA 9) defense of his vote. There's talk of drafting Needham's Harmony Wu to run against Lynch in the September primary, but MassBeacon's Conor Yunits tries to put the kibosh on that by crunching the special election numbers.
Matt Viser and David Abel report in Political Intelligence that Senator Brown (R-MA) is now willing to read the reconciliation bill, rather than vote no on it outright. He's also one of the saner Republicans who is not calling for a repeal of the bill. FiveThirtyEight crunched the numbers, and repeal looks unlikely.
The Metro-West Daily News's David Riley reports that the Republican challengers in the MA 3 are taking aim at the healthcare law.
The Globe's Brian Mooney and Michael Levenson report that the healthcare law is coming to the forefront of the governor's race. The Herald's Thomas Grillo reports that Tim Cahill is slamming the bill.
The AP's Steve LeBlanc reports on how Massachusetts will be affected by the new law.
