'Round the Bubblah 03-24-2010

Ever since Scott Brown single-handedly stopped healthcare reform, the world has been a safer place, right?  I know, sarcasm doesn't suit 'Round the Bubblah.

Oh.  Funny story.  Blue Mass Group's David Kravitz speculates that Scott Brown's campaign stance as #41 actually helped healthcare reform get passed more smoothly.  Brown tells the Herald's Laura Crimaldi that that's wrong, and that he's not insignificant.

Adam Gaffin reports on Scott Brown's claim that the Democrats are pushing TV anchor Rachel Maddow to run against him in 2012.  Gaffin also has Maddow's response that's somewhere along the lines of "What?  That's cute!"  If I were Brown, I'd be more worried about Democrat Stephen Lynch.

Political scientist Thomas Whalen agrees, according to the Herald's Jessica van Sack, who reports on the Tea Party's buyer's remorse.  The Outraged Liberal also comments on the end of Brown's fifteen minutes of fame.

WBUR's Monica Brady-Myerov reports that the healthcare reform law will not mean change for Massachusetts.  The Globe's Susan Milligan reports that Mass will make money on this overhaul.

Green Mass Group's Eli Beckerman reports on gubernatorial candidate Jill Stein's healthcare statement.

Red Mass Group's Brock Cordeiro reports on Charlie Baker's healthcare statement.

The Globe's Jeremy Herb reports that Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA 4) is moving on past healthcare to the Fannie Mae/Freddy Mac overhaul planned by the Obama administration.

The Globe's Stephanie Vallejo posts on Political Intelligence that Rep. Bill Delahunt (D-MA 10) hopes the House will pass the International Violence Against Women Act before he retires.

Beacon Hill is predicting job growth as a result of Capitol Hill's new healthcare reform law, reports WCVB.

The Globe reports that the state economy is recovering.

The Globe's Frank Phillips reports a disparity between what Tim Cahill (I) has been telling voters about Romneycare and Obamacare destroying Massachusetts in four years, and what he's telling investors Massachusetts is buying bonds from.  Whoopsie.  The Outraged Liberal accuses him of security fraud or voter fraud, one of the two.  My money's on voter fraud.

Cahill also may have to take the stand in the Sal DiMasi corruption trial, reports the Herald's Laurel Sweet.

David Bernstein notes that Charlie Baker (R) is attacking Cahill over the recent donations scandal, and notes Christy Mihos's irrelevance in the Republican primary.  The AP reports that Baker is calling for stricter campaign finance laws.

Nevertheless, Baker and Mihos square off in a primary debate in Hyannis this Friday night, reports the Cape Cod Times's Jake Berry.

VB Goudie interviews Baker for Fox.

The AP reports that Grace Ross, who has become a Democrat to run against Governor Patrick in the gubernatorial primary, expects to collect enough signatures to appear on the ballot and at the convention.

The State House News Service reports that Senator Karen Spilka (D-Middlesex, Norfolk 2) and others are meeting this week to discuss casinos.

The AP reports that legislators are criticizing Governor Patrick because he hasn't pushed hard enough to use cheaper civilian flaggers instead of police officers at roadside construction projects.

In an effort to boost business, lawmakers are proposing lifting the Sunday alcohol sale ban, reports Fox.

Massachusetts Elections 2010 rounds up coverage of the Democratic debate in the race to replace disgraced former Senator Galluccio (D-Middlesex, Suffolk, Essex).  ME2010 also reports that candidate Peter Smuloitz is anti-casino, and candidate Lida Harkins is pro-casino.

Fox's Gene Lavanchy catches up with Mayor Menino.

Adam Gaffin reports that the City Council may ban segway tours.

And the Herald's Thomas Grillo reports that the chairman of Vornado is apologizing to Mayor Menino, who threatened Vornado with eminent domain if Downtown Crossing was remaining a blight to extort city money.
