Lots of casino news this morning, so I felt it deserved its own post. Given the current push for casinos, I doubt this will be the only "Hit Me" post.
Fox's Kim Carrigan interviews Speaker Robert DeLeo (D-Suffolk 19). DeLeo goes over the specifics of his proposal. Of note, he says that we don't need public hearings because we've already held hearings on this to death. Right, because there are apparently no specifics in this plan that need discussing. For instance, CommonWealth's Jack Sullivan has concerns over DeLeo's estimates, but it's unlikely we need to discuss that at a public hearing about casinos, right?
The AP's Steve LeBlanc also reported on the lack of outside review. LeBlanc notes that DeLeo's proposal comes with a modified review of the three-casino plan from two years ago, which was conducted by the Spectra Gaming Group.
Nevertheless, Speaker DeLeo's casino plan cleared committee yesterday 12-2, reports the State House News Service.
The Cape Cod Times's George Brennan notes that the casino plan has a tribal option. Basically, after the casinos in this plan are laid out, they get fifteen years without further expansion, unless the Wampanoags want a casino.
The casino bill is on the fast track to passage.
